Fellow microtonalists,

Here are two improvisations in "Elsie Hamilton's Gamut", which was first
brought to my attention on this list by Pete McRae. Thanks for turning me on
to this scale, Pete!

These pieces are somewhat indebted to a neo-Stravinsky/neo-Batok style, and
they are somewhat spare in texture, being 2-voiced for the most part (there
is a bit of filling out in the final cadence of one of them, but otherwise
strictly 2-voiced). This bring out the color of Elsie's scale without making
the waters too turgid, IMO. My favorite of the two, if you held a gun to my
head, would be 'Lament', but they both have a place in my heart as being two
nice moments of improvisation.

Since space is getting limited on akjmicro.com, I want to limit this to the
best audio, so for now I'm using .ogg. If anyone wants .mp3, let me know
privately.

Hi Aaron,

I really like these! To me, they have a simplicity and directness (AND profundity, if I may say) that really suits what (I think) Schlesinger and Hamilton were after. (Besides making them fun to listen to :-)

Bravo!

Pete
