mp3 enc/decoders at www.download.com

You can find lots of mp3 encoders and decoders at
www.download.com, for either Mac, PC, and probably
even Linux.

I've been using the not-free Casady & Green one, but
somehow it plays my files back much too loud &
distorted. When I took the C & G mp3-encoded file to
another software player, it sounded very acceptable.

I've been using CDEX with great success to turn wav to mp3. It also
rips.
