Bidule rocks!

Plogue Bidule, as recommended by Jon Szanto, is really really
cool! It turns your computer into a studio, in a very graphical
and intuitive fashion. Plus it's a VST host. It appears to be
at least as fast as Brainspawn Forte and is substantially more
fully-featured (comes with its own instruments).
