Hi Mom :)

Thanks a bunch for the comp ticket to YesSymphonic!

And yes, it's on-topic, because the string section
was *definitely* not playing in 12-EDO! (even if they
thought they were...)

And of course, Steve Howe's guitar work, Chris Squire's
bass playing, and Jon Anderson's vocals all exhibited
plenty of microtonality too.

This was the set: (hope I'm not leaving anything out)

Close To The Edge
And You And I
Don't Go [off their new album]
In The Presence Of [off their new album]
The Gates Of Delirium
Wonderous Stories
Perpetual Change
Ritual
I've Seen All Good People
Starship Trooper [encore]
Roundabout [final encore]

I've never seen Yes before, and I *never* imagined
I'd hear Close To The Edge *and* Gates Of Delirium
in the same show!! They sounded essentially the
same as their live shows 30 years ago.

Ya welcome!

Well, considering no one could hear a thing on stage, that's no surprise!

Esp. the pedal steel work.

Ah, yes, a blessing and a curse... But Jon Anderson is a very nice guy, we chatted quite a bit backstage during the rehearsal. He is, not surprisingly, a Partch fan, and is now outfitter properly with a "Bum Show" t-shirt...

All in all, an 'interesting' (courtesy Joe Pehrson) evening!

Cheers,
Jon

Steve Howe is *still* a marvel, after all these years.
(So is Chris Squire, but Howe really knocks my socks off.)

Lucky you! I would have *loved* to have been able to meet *him*!

For that matter... I wish they could have hired *me* to do the
orchestra parts!! :) I know all their classic tunes by heart.

LOL! That's a good one, Dan!

Sure, I suppose it means that they haven't grown much since
then, but hey, the classic stuff is so good (IMO) that it was
most welcome to *my* ears!

Seeing "Gates of Delirium" live was especially a treat for me
... not exactly what I'd call "precious" by a long shot!
(From the "Relayer" album, in case you missed it 3 decades ago...)

Hey guys,

I love Yes at least as much as any of you, but this discussion really
doesn't belong here (I'm sure Jon Szanto has enough Yes in his life
already)! I strongly suggest that you guys (especially Monz, since
you actually went to the show) take the discussion over to one of the
other lists I belong to,

Yestroopers@yahoogroups.com

Pretty please?

Sincerely,
Paul
