Don't know about the card but Cubase is the 'way to go' as y'all say. My
opinion on cards is that it's either best to buy the most all -
inclusive system you can afford or not to bother at all and do all your
audio mixing elsewhere. I use only the stereo in/outs on my Mac.

Best Wishes

Mary und Alison,

Digi001 is pricey. But looks supergood. Scratch head now.

I'm leaning towards the simple stereo out's approach.

Don't you mix in the computer with whatever "mixer" the program has, then it
sails out to a set of speakers?

I have a Mackie 1604 with an ADAT now, couldn't i use that to spit out a
stereo pair into the pooter as well, or do i want direct access to the pci
card?

Thanks!

Its not that pricey when you consider that it puts you into a
professional league with a good upgrade path and terrific technical
support. Actually on a MAc I wouldn't recommend anything else since
most of the other audio cards are made for PC with Mac drivers as an
afterthought. Motu is an exception there, and I know there are people
very happy with their 2408's but MOtu has not been a good experience
for me, while Digi has. I will at some point probably use the
competitve upgrade to try the new DSP 3 which is supposed to be nice,
since I've never adjusted to using Logic as my sequencer.

Should be fine for two speakers.

Yes ProTools has a virtual mixer. I don't even use a mixer now for
anything more than a pathchbay.

Thats very similar to the setup my husband is using and it works fine.

Mary und Jacky Buttinsky,

Thanks for the thoughts.

Now i'm thoroughly confused. He he..

Welcome Jacky Buttinsky!

Mary, why would i want the 001 over something more simple. I don't need the
adat connection (do I?), nor the other SEEMING bell and whistle type stuff.
How do you use your's that makes it indispensible?

I'm not afraid to buy it (royalty check) if it's the way to go, it just
seems a bit more than i need. But i know that i don't fully understand what
i may or may not really need.

Whew.

Your right about one thing though, Digidesign has more than adequate
service. Good people.

Thanks to you all for your continued hand-holding.

George before you make the purchase talk to as many people as you can
about it - salespeople and friends. If you can check out your
friends setups who are doing similar things to what you want to do.
A DAW is much more than a soundcard, as Jacky points out.

Its also a "nonheadache" to setup and use.

Some reasons not to buy an 001 - it won't work with VST plugings,
making the Cubase purchase a bit superfluous.

It doesn't generate Midi Time COde which I something I use a lot.

It doesn't work with SuperCollider.

CHeck out the digidesign users group also for lots of info about
Digioo1 on a Mac, and for btter comparisions to other sound cards
than I can give you.

Hi Everyone

Here is a small excerpt I am calling Primal Psi X from a larger
piece, Edge of This Universe, that I am currently working on and
thought some of you might enjoy. It is using Jackie's tunings of
Fractal Pi and PhiMos (which is one of my faves). THe gongs are tuned
to the "Magic CommaPump" progression, for fun. Rythmically I am
using the Golden Horagram Tuning 11, which uses the Lucas Series, in
a manner Kraig Gradydescribed of non coicident beats.
I am also running a small snippet of my own DNA music (homo sapiens
steroid 11 - beta-hydyroxylase ) through a self oscillating Pluggo
plugin.

Whew.

Here is the real reason I though you might want to check it out. I
got this note from a friend today, a very talented healer, who said

"I've noticed a pronounced shift in outlook, perspective, as well as
inner feeling tone. A layer of heaviness is gone ... that heaviness
around 'life as a physical human' ... even a thin layer of struggle
is gone ... had a big wave of "how it feels to have an abundance of
money at all times" wash over me and hang around for quite some
time. Had never felt that before in this body, that I can recall.

My new favorite tune, needless to say..."

Comments are welcome, and skepticism expected :-) My own experience
of it is the feeling of being fed by the night sky....

Thank you Jacky kindly for always listening and making such great
scales, as well as great music yourself.

Yes folks we do have a mutual admiration society here :-)

Wonder if this has anything to do with the abundance of RAM which is
finding its way to my doorstep.

Nahhhh!!!!! Thats too spooky :-)

Mary,

Another in what seems like an unending stream of amazing pieces. You
have the gift to do that which very few people do: you make music
unlike anyone else I know.

With the quality of 'unique' becoming an endangered species, you rise
to the occasion and show it can be done.

Cheers,
Jon

Hi Jon

I got a chuckle when I read this. I've bee told many things about my
work, but no one has ever told me that "I need to find my own voice".

Truthfully I have trouble even seeing the box that I'm supposed to be
thinking outside of - its like I'm looking in a different direction
or dimension.

Although I can't explain it I simply try to stay true to it and am
delighted that there are a few others who also enjoy it.

Peace,
Mary

Hi George

Have you gotten your equipment yet? I came across this review of the
Mia card today, and thought others looking for sound cards would find
it helpful. It looks like you made an excellent choice

Mary!

You should go into business re-assuring people that they made good choices
post-purchase.

I read the review, and am even more happy now, than when i purchased it.

No, i don't have anything yet, but soon i'm sure. Early X-mas here in
J-Tree!

Thanks for steering me to these new on-line electro gizmo sites. Information
is not knowledge, but it sure smells like it.

Muchos Gracias senorita Ackerly!

Jorge!

Just got off the phone from ordering my RAM. Found it a little
cheaper at a place I have used for years called Mohawk Memory. You
can try them at 1-800-986-6429.

RAM is so cheap they are practically giving it away (Except for the
RDRam I have to use for my PC's) Upgrading memory always makes a huge
difference on both MACs and PC, especially with native plugins.

Go for it!!
