Nord Modular G2 possibly gaining microtuning capability

Here's a report from the MusikMesse posted to another forum:

http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?
s=&threadid=593398

Relevant text:

"He[a developer at Clavia] also revealed a few neat novelties that'll
be in the G2 soon (well, soon - one was already implemented):

- alternative tuning methods (I told him about how Acces & Waldorf
and such had puretuning and things like that) he admitted that he was
trying to put that on the wishlist for years!) - Werckmeister,
Kirnberger & some exotic scales.

- a FULL ALREADY WORKING DX-7 EMULATION. That's right. No longer
hooking up sinewave slave oscillators with separate velocity curves
and misery like that - this thing can import DX-7 sysex and has a
number of algorithm presets! They simply reverse-engineered it! This
was one of the things I was wondering about myself a few days ago -
it'd give FM a big boost, make it easier to understand!"

If Clavia can get the DX-7 emulation fully functional, so that the G2
can import DX-7 sysex files, that may be already enough for
microtuning the thing.

DX7 does not have native microtuning functionality - only a first generation
DX7 with E! enhancement or second generation DX7: DX7IIFD, DX7S, DX7IID,
TX802.

Some Nord Modular G2 users aren't waiting for the tuning feature to
be added. Kees van der Maarel has been posting microtuning patches
for the G2 these past few days.

You're assuming Clavia just wants to emulate the original DX7. I
doubt they would want to limit their emulation to just the original
architecture, any more than Native Instruments did with their FM7.

Paulo,

I don't think that is what John was referring to below:

He was merely stating that the original DX7 - without the addition of the modification with the E! enhancement (which I believe was a daughterboard) - was not capable of microtuning. Your original post said:

"If Clavia can get the DX-7 emulation fully functional, so that the G2
can import DX-7 sysex files, that may be already enough for microtuning the thing."

Original DX-7 sysex files didn't have microtuning information, as the instrument wasn't microtuneable. At least that is how I recall all of this...

Cheers,
Jon

Jon,

That's correct. The original statement implies that DX7 sysex files support
microtuning. They do not. DX7 compatibility alone won't guarantee
microtuning support.
