I've started browsing through the online Soundfont libraries but
thought I should ask this here to in the hopes of speeding up the
search.
On another forum, I got the suggestionn to use Polyphontics, the
DLS/Soundfont authoring tool for Mac OS X in conjunction with the
Apple DLS Synth as a way of cutting down on CPU usage while using
soft synths, since Apple's synth is one of the most CPU-friendly soft
synths, if not the lightest-on-the-CPU synth in existence.
I admit I doubt the practicality of recording 128 audio files (1 per
pitch in the MIDI note range) for Polyphontics to import and convert
into a sound bank, but I have no doubt there is a way around this.
