More glass ?s & thanks

Thanks to Dave Beardsley for suggesting Oddmusic (although I haven't
found it useful so far).

And thanks to Jon Szanto & Kraig Grady for their very practical
advice on mounting the glass bars & finding nodes.

Paul E., I'll see if I can arrive at the 0.225 exactly or not :)

I've bought my glass cutter, and when things 'round here calm down,
I'll see what I can do!

One thing I forgot to mention: I will have to somehow carefully
remove the glass panes from the old wooden window frames, or
carefully break the wooden frames such that the glass inside falls
onto a soft surface (I suppose packing foam should work OK).

My current idea is to use my electric drill to cut into corners of
the wooden frames, and then apply some judicious force to the frame
to gently break it & let the glass fall to the packing foam.

Any thoughts on how to most easily & properly break up the window
frames without harming the glass?

And any ideas on
a) rope-ladder 'frame' (and somehow cushioning the individual bars)
for playing bars vertically, perhaps
versus
b) horizontal, probably wooden frame?

Whadda ya think, that you're writing to "This Old House"? This is pretty OT, but I'll just share that I picked some windows up at a second hand store to use for picture frame glass. It all depends on how well the windows were made - these were constructed well, and it was hard to get the glass out without breaking. You might also try scoring just inside the perimeter of the window, tapping, and see if you can get out the majority of the window (i.e. *not* breaking up the frame).

Terribly bad idea. Much harder to be accurate, and much harder to gauge force of blows (you're talking to a professional percussionist, remember...). Lay them horizontally (like a marimba) and it will be far more sensible. Besides, that's the only good way to add resonators.

Cheers,
Jon
