On another note, has anyone done any microtuning with the Yamaha SY-99? Is it
possible to save the tunings to disk or are you just limited to the 2 user-definable
tunings? -Justin

Check out this page, which has info on the SY-99, including links to discussion groups and the Yamaha site for manuals in .pdf format:

Thanks, I'm also looking at the EX-5. Does anyone here know if the EX-5 can do
microtuning and, if so, how many scales can you save? -Justin

To follow up on my own message, I looked at the manual and it seems like the EX-5
has 32 presets but no user-definable scales...which is pretty much useless in my
book. Everything has switched to sysex tuning only, but that seems lame unless you
enjoy lugging a computer around with your keyboard. -Justin

I believe the EX-5 can't even do tunings by system exclusive.

Well, that just reconfirms my belief that the DX7 II-FD + E! was the best synth ever
made for microtonal enthusiasts and nothing even close seems to have come out
since then (among self-contained synths vs. sysex).

On that note, if anyone on this list ever has a DX7 II-FD + E! w/ RAM cartridge for
sale, please let me know! -Justin
