Can anyone tell mew which, if any, of the new generation of soft samplers
(Halion, Kontakt, etc.) are retunable with scala? Thanks.

I have not checked out either Halion or SampleTank (though I will). But if Kontakt does it is not mentioned at all; the weird part is that I came across the announcement of the budget version called Kompakt, which is new. Right on the .pdf brochure it showed a funtion for microtuning, but like some of the other NI products it simply accesses a pre-set group of microtunings internally. Big bummer.

I'm going to try Orion Platinum again in the next few days, as I believe someone mentioned this capability. However, IIRC, the sampler contained in Orion didn't have nearly the sound capabilities that the bigger samplers had, and a sampler needs quite a bit of help to sound musical and instead of just being a replicator.

I'll report back. I'm enjoying using both the z3ta+ and CronoX, the first of which directly supports .scl files, the latter .tun files. Tuning to your hearts content with decent, musical sounds as well, and lots of room for creative programming.

I'm opening some new doors for myself...

Cheers,
Jon
(gee, you wanna post that great thing about the Korean concert over here, too?)

Kontakt seems to be getting the best reports and the specs are very
impressive. I remember you posted details of a conversation you had with one
of NI's software designers who said that support for microtuning was on the
way. I wonder if he intended to support the sampler range as well.

z3ta+ recently came out top in a critical survey of softsynths (run by
Future Music magazine). For the price it has to be on anyone's list.

I'm keen to hear the results as I'm still swithering over which products to
invest in.

Cheers,

Done. BTW - I went to see a play called San Diego in which all the females
there were called Amy.

Does anyone know if Vsampler3 supports MTS or Scala?

I just was contacted by the developer of Vsampler(Maz) that the next
version (3.1) will have Microtunability and SCALA compatibility.
I had requested this feature months ago, and it seems that it will
now become a reality! He is currently asking which SCALA scales
he should have as Default scales since he doesn't want over 3000
default SCALA scales.
So, please post your recommendations here and at www.vsampler.com !!
