Absynth

There was talk on this forum recently of Absynth offering microtonal
support. Has anyone tried out the programme yet and if so are the claims
true?

I'd try a demo but my present 'pooter isn't powerful enough so I'm checking
out the softsynths via the excellent British "computer music" magazine
before I upgrade.

So far I've established that Rhino and other Big Tick synths, z3ta, and
Crono X support Scala. Possibly Absynth but no news on the microtonal
possibilities of Reason, Reaktor, VirSyn Tera, Project 5, FL Studio, Orion
Platinum and other heavyweights.

I'm going to run up a letter for each of these and ask if they've any plans
to help us out. Something along the lines of - "I (important cutting edge
composer and academic or whatever) was about to buy your package till I
noticed that you don't have microtonal support but a rival company (Absynth,
Big Tick, etc.) does...... and so on. Worth a try.

Hi absynth's microtonal support isn't much of support really, it
offers a number of preset "alternative scales" to choose from, and
you can't change them in any way. No scala file support.

This is also my first post here so hello everyone I've been reading
much about microtonality in last five years but I never
talked/written to anyone about it. I am not an educated person about
music, just amateur.

The newest versions of Orion Pro and Orion Platinum both now
support Scala. I have tried the beta version of Vsampler 3.0,
and believe if they had Scala compatibility, it would be excellent.

Hi

I've been looking at the Orion line and they seem reasonably priced. Thanks
for the tip.
