Hello,
I am using Logic Audio Platinum 5 on MAC, Diggi 001, midiman sport
2x2 midi interface along with Roland G-1000 & Ensoniq TS-10 synths. I
would like to record and playback with Arabic tuning and I just can't
find a way of doing it. I know that in Cubase there is something like
world scales, is there something similar in logic? if not, can you
tell me of an easy way of doing it in plain non technical English?
Thank you!

dear osama,

i'm very sorry that no one has been able to answer your question so
far. please be patient and hopefully one of our resident microtonal
gurus will be able to help you out.

best,
psul

Here's one answer, from Charles Lucy (not currently posting to MMM):

Dear Jonathan,
Thank you for looking up some answers for my question. My
issue is that I am not using the EXS24. I am mainly using
external sound ,modules as well as other soft synths. It seems
that no one arround ever used logic with Arabic/Turkish scales!
and Emagic doesn't give a d... about it! I've posted this question
in logic user group and I got everything except a "usable" reply.
Please let me know if any one has answer to how to use
alternative tunings in logic.
Thanks,
Osama

Osama,

{you wrote...}
>Thank you for looking up some answers for my question.

Wellll, it really wasn't me, but someone else (Paul) who attempted to forward a msg from someone else (Charles). So credit all around. Now to the problem...

>My issue is that I am not using the EXS24. I am mainly using external >sound ,modules as well as other soft synths.

OK, we've tried to get this figured out, but you really must be very specific in your question. May I suggest that you give us the following info (even if you've posted it in parts before):

- operating system and version
- sequencer/DAW (digital audio workstation) and version
- a listing of hardware synths
- a listing of software synths

THEN, and only then, can we start to see where the problem lies. But I want to mention something about the following:

>Please let me know if any one has answer to how to use alternative tunings >in logic.

If you are using Logic to drive external or internal hard/soft synths, it is *not* the fault of Logic if the synths do not support alternate tunings! The *only* way you can use these kind of synths for non 12tet tuning is to use one of the other programs that will send pitch bend messages to individual tracks to tune notes that way. You must also have single lines on separate channels, otherwise any 2 or more sounding notes will get bent the same amount, which would probably not be correct.

Do you understand the situation? As I understand it, you can only get your tunings going by either

1. retuning your synths (and you should check www.microtonalsynthesis.com for a listing of which synths are tuneable) and then using Logic for sequencing

2. using another program (we can find these) that will retune individual channels on the synths, using pitch bend data, that normally can't be tuned other than 12tet.

I hope this helps, but if you are still not sure then you will HAVE to give us a more detailed accounting of your setup (and your needs, I guess).

Cheers,
Jon

Hello,
Thank you for your reply. Here is my setup:
-Power Mac PC G4 533, 256 RAM, 40 + 20 GB hard drives
-Mac OS 9.2
-Digi 001 for audio "I am not using the midi conection in the 001".
-Midiman sports 2x2
-Logic Audio Platinum 5.4
-Roland G-1000 workstation "Connected to port B on midiman in and out"
-Ensoniq TS-10 Synth "Connected to port A on midiman in and out"
-freeware softsynths; delaylama, VB1, epiano,etc.
-Both of the synths "roland and ensoniq" support microtuning.
-I would like to record midi tracks in logic with Arabic
scales "quorter notes -50" applied let's say to the E and B or E and
A.
Thank you again and please let me know if you require further details
about my setup in order to solve this issue.
Regards,
Osama
