Hi Alexandros

do you know if this module would be compatible with a Doepfer A-100
system?

Thanks

Hello
Every modern modular is compatible with others.(and most old)
The difference may lie in the cable format , but several manufacturers make interfaces for the various cables.
www.modcan.com has one of these.

Great. I thought so. I've been waiting for this for a while too as I
can't seem to get Doepfer to develop software to make their analogue
sequencer send out anything other than 12 tet steps.

The site states that the modules are out in autumn 2003, so if you get
there first i'd be interested to hear how you rate it.

Best Wishes

All modern analog modular synthesizers use 1 volt/octave exponentially
scaled control voltages for generating pitches, so this MIDI-CV
converter would be compatible with them as well as most older analog
synthesizers, modular or not. MOTM is also releasing an analog pattern
sequencer that supports microtuning, the MOTM 600 Microsequencer. MOTM
makes a patch panel, the MOTM-940, that lets you convert from the 1/4"
jack format to 1/8" jacks or banana jacks.

I'm already on the reserve/wait list for these modules, so I'll give a
report to the list when they come out.

Some of Roberts music is microtonal, but is not done
with analog synths.

I thought the modular synth compatibility issues were with power supplies.

Bestiary was accomplished almost entirely on an MOTM analog modular
synthesizer. So was his latest collaboration with Ian Boddy. I also
believe Robert has used a Prophet 5 in the past.

I didn't say he doesn't use analog synths. After opening for him
at the Knitting Factory last year, I even got to help carry some of
that analog equipment up two flights of stairs to his van.

It depends on what level of compatibility you're talking about. If you
want to place an MOTM module into a Doepfer rack, it obviously won't
work. MOTM supports its own rack and power connector format. For these
MOTM microtonal MIDI-CV converters and sequencers you should budget for
a set of MOTM rack rails ($39) and the new MOTM power supply with
+15/-15/+5 volts power ($139 kit/$189 assembled).

A few places offer power cable adapters for sharing power supplies
between different makes. Here's one for MOTM/Blacet conversion to
Synthesizers.com http://www.synthesizers.com/q101.html . Here's another
for Modcan to MOTM power sharing, look for combo distro board under
info: http://www.cyndustries.com/ .

If you're talking about interface level compatibility, you can freely
patch between Doepfer, MOTM, Serge, Moog, Arp, Synthesizers.com, etc.
modular synthesizers with a patch panel adapter such as the MOTM-940.

The microtonal sequencer sounds interesting. Shame that Doepfer can't
sort out their MAQ sequencer for microtonality. It's a fine module in
most other respects.
