around ages 6-10, my nose was shoved to the grindstone with classical
piano. there was absolutely no musicality emerging in my soul during
this process. it took many years of healing and genuine *playing* --
which i now recognize as work, even though it just seemed like fun at
the time -- to discover the part of myself that had real musical
creativity, and to make it come through in the context of 20th
century earth instruments and 20th century earth listeners (ok, now
21st century). now, for example when i drum, my conscious mind simply
sits back and observes this unusual little part of the universe that
happens to make music. the "work" is not apparent at all in the
product -- but the product wouldn't be here without it . . .
