Yahoo demolishes non-english characters !?

I see that Yahoo's Digest format (at least) seems to deconstruct non-english characters into gobbledygook. This occurs even to simple characters from West European languages.

I've noticed this happening in the digest formats of non-Yahoo mailing lists too, like the ones hosted at JISCmail, <http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/>. I don't know if Yahoo Groups' non-digest e-mails work correctly, but JISCmail's individual e-mails do.

Does anyone have more information on this ?
