Olá Rick,

That's interesting, what you said about Mac OS X. Don't get me
wrong, I'm not the least interested in any Mac v/s Windows
thing. Especially since OS X, which has made it a simple Unix
v/s Windows world. It's a paradigm shift.

I don't think cost is much of an issue, especially for
professionals living in the west or other affluent parts of the
globe. Peripherals cost the same for any platform. Same for
software. However, music software for OS X is just starting to
come out.

Cubase SX & Emagic Logic are still not released, though
announced. Coda says Finale will not be out for OS X before
Finale 2003 is released (I replied telling them that's too
slow), Sibelius IS out already. A lot of audio editing software
is available, including SoundHack & PeakME for free, also some
software synths & the like.

G4s still cost a bit. Entry level is the new iMac G4 700 &
800MHz with the LCD screen. Runs in the neighborhood of 2.5 to 3
thousand Euros/Dollars. That's what credit cards were invented
for I guess...

BTW, I realise I'm preaching to the choir to an extent, so the
info here is for the benefit of those who may not know about it.

I'm still using a 233MHz G3 with 160MB RAM & 2MB VRAM, but am
hoping to move up to a 700MHz G3 14" iBook some time this year,
or early next (by which time of course there'll be faster
iBooks), and have my fingers crossed Finale will be out by then.
And, while I am hoping to see SuperCollider (it is amazing!) for
OS X out soon, It'll be nice to see Reaktor & Max/MSP.

Oh yeah, I also had a brief & pleasant e-mail exchange with NI
about FM7. Looks like they actually care & may improve their
microtonal support. People, we have to write them & let them
know we want this stuff.

Oh well, tchau !

- Joel

Can you post the email address that you wrote to and the letter? Off
list is fine. I'll send an email saying the same stuff but in my own
words.

Good to hear that they were accomadating.
