Also, if anyone has a list of features that LMSO can do which we
couldn't do in anything else, e.g. things Scala can't do, would you
mind posting it here?

This sucks.
Great guy, great program.  LMSO has been an enormous help.

Instead of finding a way to live without LMSO why are we not discussing
how to re-build the bridges? (psychotic person mentioned on his site
excluded).

We are a small community - Jeff is smart and real contributor. I don't
think it is a good idea to lose him.

Sure, go ahead and build bridges. I also have an interest in replacing
everything that paid software can do with things that free software
can do.

Also, for the record, I don't really want to get into the fight here
or whatever went down. Sucks that Jeff's seen so much abuse in his
time in the community, and the story about the guy who wanted to track
down and kill his family was truly disturbing. I agree that nobody
should have to deal with that.

But I do think it's a shame that LMSO isn't out there anymore, since
it was a tool many people seemed to depend on for making actual
microtonal music. For instance, if Jeff wants to retire from the
community and internet flamewars, he can always open source LMSO or
put it out as freeware, as many retiring developers do. But from his
post it doesn't seem like that's his intention, and rather that he
wants LMSO to just be gone, period. To be honest I don't like that,
since it makes it harder for everyone to make music and seems like
kind of a "fuck all you guys guess what no more LMSO" type thing. But,
you know, it's his right to do whatever he wants with his software.

So now I'm just curious to see what was lost, and what you can't do in
Scala. I think the main thing was the functionality that retunes Logic
softsynths, so I wonder how hard it'd be to code up some simple app to
do some of that in JUCE or whatever. I don't actually have LMSO so I'm
not sure what its features are. I was hoping to purchase it in the
coming months, once I get a bit of money saved up (lol recession), but
that's not an option anymore.

Disgraceful. I sympathize with X. J. This, amidst all the chaos that is the political mess in Turkey affecting jobs, liberties, progress...

Too bad, just too darn awful.

For the record, Igs has publicly come out on XA and said he was the guy who
got in the fight with Jeff. He's not the original guy who was hating on Erv
Wilson and was threatening to track him down and kill his family though,
that was someone else. So Igs isn't a psycho killer (fa fa fa fa fa).

They got in an argument about technology or something as far as I can tell.
I wasn't there but you can read the thread on XA if you want. I'm not sure
what the real story is and don't want to take sides. Clearly Jeff's
feelings are hurt and I hope they can sort it out. I'm just posting this so
people know the whole thing's a fairly complex situation.

I still maintain it'd be a good idea for us to try and code up some of the
functionality of LMSO that's not in other programs.

Not sure what type of petition you mean... I don't want to sign a petition
that takes Jeff's side over Igs' since I wasn't there. But I'd definitely
sign one stating that I think Jeff a valuable member of the community and
wish he comes back in general.

FWIW, I only found out about nonoctave a while ago but really liked the
vibe there... Great music posted all the time by Carlo, Chris and others...
Lots of compositional experience there.

appears to be this person
who runs this site

it also appears another individual has also attempted this in the last

Yeah, I remember Ron Sword telling me about him. Apparently he's been known
to go over to Sword Guitar forums at ninestring.org and start shit. I'm
pretty sure he's a huge fan of Jon Catler too. He has this video here

It's pretty good.
