Hi,

sorry I missed the beginning of this discussion. I teach horn and to a
lesser extent other brass. Within this framework I try to inculcate a
real understanding of the use of harmonics in the brass students.
Exercises include the use of alternative harmonics on pitches with the
same note name, including awareness of microtonal differences.
I teach intonation in this context, so only for the practical
considerations of the students, not for the compositional uses.
To this end I have developed and published a beginner book for horn
players which only extends to the 7th harmonic due to the restricted
range of a student from beginnings to 1 or 2 years work.
My recent thesis includes a Method for playing horn in extended just
intonation (through to the 16th harmonic - 13-limit JI) which has a
number of exercises to develop physical and aural expertise.
Please contact me if you want more information or to discuss this.
Michael

Thanks,
Michael
