The Angels of Minamisoma

Minamisoma was a city in Japan that was destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami of 3/11/2011.

I composed "The Angels of Minamisoma" back on March 15th 2011 with the idea that suddenly the population of the city died and didn't quite realize that they had become angels. This written for the Vox Novus Composer's Voice series and was not selected. The call for scores gave a choice of percussion instruments paired with flute. I chose a vibraphone as being one that suited the picture I was trying to paint - spooky, a bit light hearted yet sad.

As for the composition itself it is written in free tonality that is driven by melodic and harmonic tendencies that I heard / imagined while composing.Of course your mileage may vary. I took this as an opportunity to explore various 12 note tunings, specifically Blue JI, Pythagorean JI and Marvelous dwarf 1/4 kleismic tempered duodene

The score for the piece is here:

The Pythagorean version of the piece is here:

Do you have a favorite tuning for this piece?

I want to listen to the *one or two* versions you like the best, if you have a
preference.

If you don't, I'll listen to the 12-equal version.

(Just catching up on some listening and open to any tips about what to listen
to!)

Pythagorean.

Though the point of offering a choice is to allow you to explore and decide what you like best.

Thanks. I'll listen to that one, and perhaps the others after that.

With a huge amount of stuff to attend to, I have to pick and choose.

Carl said he really liked.

It wasn't this one, I suspect.

Lest my last remark be misinterpreted, Chris, I'll re-phrase:

Where can I listen to the piece (title unknown) that had some recorded voice, if
I'm not mistaken, and of which Carl said "I really like that!"

I delete emails these days, to keep things simple, so I miss things, sometimes.
