Ok,

I just watched on TED, and then Youtube Eric Whitacre's virtual choir.

An excellent Idea!

Here is the product

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7o7BrlbaDs

Here is the recording / conductor track (bit boring of course)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrQRVI8y5j8&feature=relmfu

And here is the TED talk on how it was done
http://www.ted.com/talks/eric_whitacre_a_virtual_choir_2_000_voices_strong.html

I am interested in knowing if anyone would want to be involved in a youtube microtonal band done in a similar fashion.

I have a bit of experience - I did this video in Pomplamoose style:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWmbqCdake0

So, a 4 to 6 member band I can do - are there any interested microtonalists?

Chris

Thanks for the links!

Being a part of a choir is the most incredible thing I have
ever done.

This is a poor substitute for singing together in person,
and of course relevant to this list is the fact that the
singers aren't able to adaptively control their intonation.

Also I found the piece to be absolutely lifeless.

Nonetheless it is a great idea and a great project and even
better if it gets people singing out more.

Very cool idea! I like this piece a lot. I'm also down to be a part of
anything you want to organize. I have an AXiS-49 right now, a 31-tone
acoustic guitar that badly needs adjusting, and I'm going to get a
microtonal acoustic in either 15, 19, or 22 soon.

Hi Mike,

I know for sure Norm Harris, very good percussionist, is in on this too.
I'll probably end up with bass guitar duty I figure since I have a fretless
bass.

Well, I'll offer my comments as well.

The point of the post was to invite some microtonalists to get together and
present a way to make some music in a virtual way - which of course, you
didn't address.

But since you address what you though of the choir idea - well, as a music
major choir was required. I love the sound of a choir. I've written pieces
for choir.
And I agree that one can't adjust intonation with this process.

However, I think that 15,559 likes, 166 dislikes and 2.2 million plays
probably means the rest of your assessment is in the small minority.
