5 vs 10 vs 15 vs 20 edo

I loaded up 4 copies of my bowed piano and adjusted one to 5 edo, another to 10 edo, another to 15 edo and another to 20 edo - then I put them all on "omni" to play them simultaneously with my keyboard.

The result is... interesting - at times extremely dissonant. As it works out they all share middle C which is the first note I play.

Hi Chris, I've been a reader on the email list for awhile, but this is the first time I've actually contributed (and it's for a request really)

Hearing this piece this is exactly the type of stuff I've been looking to do with my studio, and I was wondering if you would take the time to personally guide me through your process/programs you use.

Just from my ear I can only pick up that you were using the sampled instruments from Sonic Couture, but as for how you achieved different temperaments and sequenced them, I'm at a loss. (The sequencer question for me is beyond just the time-scale possibilities, since midi values are equally tempered)

If you have the time, I'd really appreciate learning from your workflow

thanks!

Joey

Hi Joey,

What does all of the work is Kontakt. If you follow the directions here :

http://chrisvaisvil.com/?p=631

you can set up your Kontakt instrument into your desired EDO. To have more
than one instrument in the same EDO simply repeat for the 2nd instrument.
For more than one EDO at the same time simply choose a different EDO with
the second instrument.

Now, to play the two (or more) instruments at the same time set your
controller and the kontakt instrument to the same midi channel. Or - sure
fire simply set all of the Kontakt instruments to OMNI and forget about midi
channels entirely.

I hope that answers a bit of your questions. Since I have no idea what
sequencer (DAW) you are using I can't address that - however, if you have
Kontakt working in your sequencer the rest of this should work just fine for
you no matter what your platform.

Chris
