New EP "Open Space" Available For Download!

Hey folks!

I am pleased to announce my newest EP is finally complete, and ready for download at the new City of the Asleep band camp page:

http://cityoftheasleep.bandcamp.com/

You now have the *option* to pay me any sum you desire, or to download for free. If you opt for the latter, you will be asked for your e-mail and geographic location; this information goes only to ME, it does not sign you up for any spam, it does not go to any band camp execs, it's just so I can keep track of who is checking out my stuff and where they're coming from. Small price to pay for 6 tracks of microtonal and poly-microtonal instrumental post-rock that I've slaved over for the last several months, as well as 7 pieces of accompanying original artwork by yours truly, and some nice liner notes describing the scales I used on each track and why I chose them.

Of course, if you'd prefer a hard copy on CD, that can be arranged, but I'd rather save some plastic and postage if possible.

Comments and critiques are welcome! I'd love to discuss any of these tracks with anybody who's interested.

-Igs

Disregard this! Is the first one 15-tet?

I haven't bought it yet because I'm currently at my friend's house. I am shamed!

LOL, you guys are funny!

Jon, props for being #1! I'm curious about what you think of the final track...it mashes up 17 and 20-EDO, and I remember you being a bit skeptical of my enthusiasm for mashing up EDOs back on the Xenharmonic Alliance NING. I think it worked out pretty swell.

Just for giggles, here are the EDOs:

1. 20 with 16 (Blackwood and...?Cynder?)
2. 8, 9, and 10 (Father, ?, and Dicot)
3. 16 (Mavila)
4. 18 (A-Team)
5. 17 (Dicot/Mohajira)
6. 17 with 20 (?Superpyth? and Blackwood)

(Question marks indicate where I'm unsure if it's correct to use that temperament name).

Just nabbed it - and gave you some $ to help with buying new toys - which is
of course the important part in all of this - more toys to make the noise!

I'll be back on my thoughts

Sorry, I made a mistake. Track 2 is 8, 9, and 10, but 8 is using the ssLssL scale, 9 is using sLsLsL, and 10 is using Dicot. No idea what temperaments the 1st two could be involving, if any (harmonies are entirely inter-scalar).

I absolutely love tracks 2 and 4 here.  Two is just flat out hyperactive, playful and fun...to me it shows "punk rock ethic" and does not sound forced into a technique or "academic/serious" at all.     I could imagine it backing some sort of extreme sports video... :-D
Track 4 meanwhile, sounds profoundly like something from Steve Vai to me: the use of soft/playful harmonics, artsy backgrounds (mix of electronic/ethnic/acoustic), and surges in/out of melodies give a stable yet mysterious feel familiar from Vai's work.  Plus it sounds stable enough...I think it could wing it to the general public as "normal sounding".

Soon as I get home I am going to download this.  Last album I bought that wasn't just 0.99 mp3 singles or white-label vinyl singles was a $15 CD album by the electronica group "Way Out West", which had about 3 songs I absolutely loved and 1 I "just "really liked.  This "Open Space" album has 2 tracks I love, and I'm known to be picky.  I'm going to pay at least $10 for this...awesome work, keep it up!

BTW, what's the TET and MOS-mapping for the A-Team scale (never heard of it)?

And I really wonder what Neil Haverstick thinks of this album...and/or what would happen in case of an Igs/Haverstick collaboration (can you say microtonal rock takeover?!) :-)
