Retuning notes already in play for tonic shifts

Hi Justin

I've just had a thought about retuning notes already in
play.

The idea is that in most scales that one uses with tonic
shifts have no 12-et intervals in them.

So, the situation where one has two notes from different
scale positions playing simultaneously in the same channel
will be quite rare. It can happen if one of the intervals
in the scale is a 12-et one.

When using the pitch bends method, the only situation really
of concern for retuning notes in play is the one where you
have a 12-et interval before the note shift which retunes
to a non 12-et one after the shift (as then you get notes
played in teh same channel that need to be remapped to
notes in separate channels).

So, I have added in a check for this case, and if it happens,
FTS switches off one of the notes, and retunes the other
one only.

Effect is that most scales will work fine - any
scales that have no exact 12-et intervals, e.g. nearly
all twelve tone temperaments etc.

If you have a scale with some 12-et intervals in it, and others
that are not 12-et, you will get occasional notes switched off.
Hopefully that will alert one to the situation, and I've
added a message about it that one sees when anyone selects the option.

Of course, this method is not as flexible as using a real time tuning
table, which will work with many parts each with their own combinations
of effects. But on the other hand, it will work with any synth / soundcard
that accepts "instant" pitch bends.

I've done the programming for it, (not uploaded yet
as this upload will be a bit delayed with several things
to finish still).

It works.

Robert

Cool Robert, I used to play around with fractal tune smithy at
work. I loved so did others, some were annoyed by it though! ;- )
[but hey I did not like the radio music they inflicted on me either ! :
)]

Sounds like a good time to get myself a little laptop for the PC
programs that can be used [I use a mac and Jeff Scott's
excellent program].

Looking foward to this release Robert, I amongst others really
appreciate the work you have put into this great program.
