Thanks for this. I didn't know that he'd died. (Thought he'd live forever.)

Watching now--in between other tasks.

Well it wasn't a total waste - they had some Honegger in there.

I kid, I kid. The music is fine by me... as long as I don't have
to listen to it. Still kidding.

Memorable moments:

* In front of Tower records - the only jerk is the Babbitt fan!

* I didn't know Sondheim was a student of his. I quite liked
Sweeny Todd.

* It says Carter abandoned serialism... I didn't know he was
ever a serialist. That seems borne out here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliot_Carter
but perhaps some experts can weigh in.

* The critic dude wears a bow tie!

Carl, I've worn a bow tie or two in my day. I thought they made me look
rather extinguished.

lulz. I've habitually worn one every Thursday when at work with the orchestra. Dates back years and years when three of us, in a desperate bid to live through a mediocre music director's contract, decided we would wear them in solidarity to remind ourselves to keep the standards high no matter what was happening up in the front-and-center.

Worked like a charm: I'm still here, he isn't. My standards haven't slipped. And I've got a pretty big bow tie collection.

Ok, back to haggling over which tuning to pick...

Aren't you afraid you'll end up looking like Tucker Carlson?

I was channeling Jon Stewart when I said that! -Carl
