well ... exactly what is the sound that you described as
a 'very quick "YOW" percussion stab'? i don't have a
copy of the album now, but around 1985 when a band i
was in figured it out, i remember being the one who
noticed this polymeter for the first time (among us).
and i distinctly remember hearing a quick guitar chord
with a wah-wah effect, along with the perc. and snare.

Quick synth filter sweep synth. Sounds like a "yow" or "meow"... I hadn't
thought of it being a guitar with a wah wah pedal because the sweep is so
smooth. Hard to tell even on the CD because the stereo positiong is the
same as the piano and it's mixed low. Whichever. Yup it's 5/8.

Could it be the Mu-Tron pedal? In case you are unfamiliar with it, it
is an amplitude sensitive filter.

Yes actually it could. I didn't even think of an envelope follower. I used
to frequently use a slightly modified electroharmonix Doctor Q for that.

But seriously, on second thought, it actually sounds, not like something
mixed at the same angle as the piano, it sounds like THE PIANO put through
an envelope follower.

Thanks John
