My favorites from Untwelve (so far)

Domina Catrina Lee: Eidolon - Loaded with memorable melodies, orchestral surges
in an ethnic arrangement as complex as in Shaahin's piece, and tons of playful variation...and all incredibly easy to listen to (comparable to, say "Iris" by the alt. rock group Goo Goo Dolls).  Oh yeah...and professional quality sound production (IMVHO "even" William Orbit has nothing on this). Wow....

Chris: Godzareh Depression-  Flat out anthematic melodies and chord progressions, good tonal color range, lots of variation, nice 60's indie rock meets classical mood to it

Actually I'd say so far Domina's song is my favorite but both songs were good enough to make my jaw drop...any one else here have a favorites from the 2010 Untwelve competition list?

Cool My Head by David Hamill had some cool sax solos and vocal parts plus
scattered anthematic melodies and chords...but
seemed half strong/catchy ballad, half weak/uncoordinated soundscape and just didn't fit.  Gene's piece was technically
superb and very playful/variant and listenable, but the emotion just wasn't as startling to me as it was in Domina and Chris's pieces.  Shaahin's piece had an awesome arrangement (very good as an orchestral soundscape) and some good mood progression...but the parts inbetween climaxes sounded very weak in comparison to the moody melodic minimalism in Chris and Domina's songs.

Michael,

Thank you very much for liking my piece. I have yet to make it through the
list myself (busy composing tonight) but what is apparent is that there is a
lot to learn from practically every piece I heard.

I personally like the winning piece a lot. The common thread I hear in the
top three is a breadth of vision - I can't say the others didn't have it
since I've not finished listening. I think what one may have to allow for is
music that you may not necessarily like yet has depth and vision that can't
be denied. That certainly was my first impression of the winning piece - but
on repeated listens I think I'm stating to "get it". In any case, like Igs'
piece - it is damn powerful.
