Hey folks, just wanted to give a quick update of what's going on with me musically, since I've been quiet in the forums lately.

I have a new album of microtonal (and poly-macro-and-microtonal!) music for which recording is DONE, which may very well be ready for download before 2011. It shows off just about all my micro-guitars, including 16, 17, 18, and 20-EDO, as well as 8, 9, and 10-EDO. The theme is "California State Parks", it's really expansive and pretty, and is the first album I've made with Apple Logic. It will be accompanied by a "bonus folder" of the tracks I put up on the Xenharmonic NING page this year, which are of course no longer available on the interwebs.

Also, if all goes well and I can find the time to finish it amid studying for the 9(!) finals I have next week, I'll be submitting something to the Untwelve competition. I wanted to submit something last year, but the track I wrote didn't get finished in time and ended up on the Split Notes comp instead. But this year I could really use some prize money, so the hope of winning some is a good incentive--I'm saving up for LMSO and a 19-EDO Catler-made neck (which will cost me an additional couple hundred to have a luthier install and set-up).

Aaaaand I'm making good progress on the Alternative EDO Primer, it's going to cover 5-EDO to 41-EDO and it's chock full of goodies: every 5-to-10-note MOS scale is covered (and their instantiations in each EDO are contrasted), approximation-errors of harmonics 3 through 31 are shown for each EDO (in 5-cent increments from 5 to 30-cent errors), harmonic properties and overall "mood" are described subjectively and rather colorfully, and I list some of my favorite chords in each EDO as well. Also, some minimal synth-piano pieces may or may not be composed in each MOS scale to accompany the reading. It's going to be well over a hundred pages, perhaps over even 200, and when it's done it will (hopefully) be the single most-useful thing ever written on the subject for the average musician.

And that's the state of the City!

-Igs

Hey- were those ads any inspiration? Never thought of that before!
(I was always reminded of the film, Dark City...)

Looking forward to it - the guitars especially!

Current state of affairs at my place: trying to get something finished for this year's Untwelve competition, too - but I'am afraid I'll miss the deadline :-(

Yeah, this. ugh. My recent computer troubles basically ruined any
chance I had at finishing this one on time.

Hi Hans,

I think I'm missing the deadline too. My dad (79) is in the hospital - and I
just got a call that he is (once again) refusing treatment so he can't go
back to the assisted living facility unless I can get him to do rehab. And I
have other family members in need of attention (in and out off the hospital
and therapy) as well. Its been like this since the first weekend in October
and I have rarely had the peace needed to work on anything of length. My
improvisations have been the only thing keeping my sane. Its been *so*
draining.

All I can say is... I hear you. Its a bummer to miss it.
