This is a solo piano piece performed on a M-Audio 88es driving pianoteq which was re-tuned to Gene Ward Smith's 17 per octave equal beating dwarf(<17 27 40|). The piece was originally recorded in pianoteq using the standalone mode and then brought into Sonar 8.5 to edit some stray notes, change a chord, and correct some timing issues (some of those still exist).

Cool.
Has a very strong jazz/blues feel to it.
Sounds like the 1/1 5/4 3/2 7/4 chords are indicated with your playing in
this temperament very well.
However some notes sound very out of tune to me (though there aren't many of
them)
Have you considered trying something like this in pure JI.
May I suggest a chain of 1/1 5/4 3/2 7/4 chords linked in pure fifths.
Like 16/9 10/9 4/3 14/9, 4/3 5/3 2/1 7/6, 1/1 5/4 3/2 7/4, 3/2 15/8 9/8
21/16, 9/8 45/32 27/16 63/32 etc.

Thanks for the listen and comment Marcel!

I'd be happy to email you the midi file if you'd like to take a shot at
porting it over to straight JI.

Ah yes I'd love to but I don't have the time :(
I have such a big to do list for tuning related stuff it'll be 2 months
before I get it all done.
I could do the first few chords just so we can hear how it'd sound.

ok, I'm emailing the first 8 measures.

Now remember the file I will be sending is in 12 equal - I loaded Gene's
tuning into pianoteq which handled all of the retuning for me.
The scala file I used is at www.chrisvaisvil.com

Enjoyable tuning that while does not sound like just to my ear ( no one said it was supposed to either) it has its own flavor.
It sounds like it is a 12 tone piece dropped into this tuning? would love to hear more with the tuning used for what it is.
Or at least those corners where we just got a glimpse. fun

Hi Kraig. Its not a retuned 12edo piece. Going from 12 to 17 notes would necessitate lots of fussing. I totally agree with youir observation that this tuning offers much more. In the same vein the fingering for those chords get complicated as well.

I'm hoping my AXiS49 will be useful for tasks as these.

Like with my centaur tuning, i recommend dropping this into a few other keys to get a feel for things.
possibly Gene might have suggestions knowing the tuning

Oh , i see, you were just playing in 17 on a 12 tone keyboard (?) i was wondering how certain tones appeared at certain times.

Yes I was. And I do creatively edit my improvisations - its the
fastest way for me to work. Though... less and less edits have been
necessary especially for a 17 based tuning due to familiarity.

Pianoteq - thanks to Carl, is a wonderful tool.

since 12 is a subset of 17 and 19, i found them "manageable' on a 12 tone keyboard. I have played with some non octave scales in this fashion.
