Hello List,
Anyone have any scores for guitar music in 17 or 19-EDO? Or interest in writing some? I'd like to try my hand at playing someone else's microtonal music.

Thanks,

-Igs

Sure, as long as I can open the file. I don't have any score programs, so it'd have to be .pdf. But yeah, I actually prefer the "extended diatonic" approach (i.e. 12-tET-style), it's easier for me to parse at this stage in my reading skills.

Not a problem Igs - I should have a couple laying around that I recorded as
midi. You'll probably have to adjust the timing - but hey, that is the
interpretation part :-)

So wait...did you record these off of a midi pickup? So then rather than extended diatonic (i.e. sharps and flats indicate different notes), it's more like 1 step of 12 equals one step of 17? Cool, that will be a good exercise for me--I'll re-transcribe it into extended Pythagorean style before I start learning it.

On this topic, does anyone have a copy of Ivor Darreg's 19EDO guitar
prelude? I'm thinking of fretting a presently fretless classical with
monofilament tied frets in 19EDO soon, and I thought it'd be a cool one to
learn. It's the piece that plays on the sagittal home page (on a
synclavier).

The answer is yes. I have a roland gr-20 and the thing would actually work with a mocrotonal guitar.

Now. Much to my chagrin I don't have a 17et piece recorded. And something is making fts midi recording really lag.

But I will write you something. I'll just run the gr 20 into pianoteq in 17et and record there.

I figured out how to do it.

Once I clean the score I'll get it to you and also the audio. I ended up
using Kontakt 4 with a guitar voice in 17edo.

Hi Igliashon,

In this folder
http://micro.soonlabel.com/17-ET/igs/
are two versions of the score - "full" with the highest resolution of
the timing, and one in 8th note resolution.
Also there is an mp3 of my performance of the piece. I worked this out
since last night. Not the best piece in the world but ok.
Dynamics are for the most part killed because of technical short
comings. Please interpret as you will if you want to take a shot at
it.
The open strings of my guitar are the first sounds you hear.

For the casual listener the direct link is.
http://micro.soonlabel.com/17-ET/igs/17edo-guitar-4-igs.mp3

Anyone may take a shot at this and are free to rearrange or steal from
it. All I'd want is a credit.

Hi Cody,

You mean the piece that _used_ to play on the sagittal home page (on a Generalised Keyboard Scalatron). :-) We recently changed our tune, and our image. But you can still hear Ivor's piece as
http://sagittal.org/Darreg19.mp3

You can see a picture of a Generalised Keyboard Scalatron here:

Ivor's prelude was published in Xenharmonikon 3 (Spring 1975). I have the very pages that George Secor read it from as he played the above version, complete with yellowing and coffee stains, as George made me a gift of several of his early volumes of Xenharmonikon. Thanks George. :-)

So I scanned those pages for you:

Thanks very much! One day I'll have to get my hands on those back issues of
Xenharmonikon. Pretty score; kind of reminds me of Lou Harrison's scores.
Now I have good reason to get that old classical fretted up. Something good
will come of that questionable $35 goodwill purchase.
