You know, I'd like to start collecting instruments from around the world, and figured I'd mention it here, as I know some of the members live in different countries. To narrow it down a bit, I think starting with fretless lutes, no sympathetic strings, would be a good place to begin....well, I do want a Pipa, which has frets...but, a ngoni, a tar, axes from Central Asia...whatever can be found. So, if anybody has ideas/leads, gimme a post at microstick@..., love to chat about it. Just got a banjo defretted, looking forward to messing with it...best...Hstick www.microstick.net

Neil, you ought to check the late (recently deceased) Turkish
instrument collector and erudite music literary Etem Ruhi Üngör's
personal collection of over 700 instruments including the tanbur of
the notorious Tanburi Djemil, neys of Sheik Nasir Dede and Kadasker
Mustafa Izzet and the lavta of Sultan Abdulaziz.
