Yes, it's Squire, budget Fender axes, really good when you find the right one. Chris...funny, I've played/recorded with fretless for years, haven't thought about it much...but sure, a strong fretting hand doesn't hurt, especially for vibrato/sustain. But...I've played for over 40 years, and have very strong hands...which isn't an accident, cause I have done/still do, exercises for that purpose. And very precise playing, of course, really helps too. Chris, I'm at microstick@... 303-231-0063, feel free to post/call with any ideas/questions, it's great you're getting this guitar done...best...HHH

Hey Neil - thanks I will take you up on your offer. I just wanted to drop a
line for would be microtonal guitar makers - the frets came off with this
type of wire cutters

very easy - I grabbed one side close to the edge of the fret board and
pulled - "pop" came out the fret in one glorious piece in good enough shape
to reuse.

An hour and a half and I got a playable fretless surface! (I used plastic
wood to fill the fret grooves and roughed it out with 150 grit carbide
paper.)

Awesome!
