Relay Tuned GR-20

Last night I was able to continue my survey of scala tunings using fractal tune smithy, fender mustang and roland gr-20

There are some 12 tet type stuff in here - partly because to my great dismay so many of the scala tunings imitate 12 tet - that seems.... to miss the point of microtonalism? So yes they are actually in some temperment or another but aurally I couldn't hear a difference....

9 ET Sorog

12 tet & 17 limit quasi-meantone simultaneously

In A 12 tet
http://notonlymusic.com/board/download/file.php?id=333

A blend of 12 tet and Stellated one out of 1:3:5 triany - which I'm not sure what that means

Thanks Sean. I'm not so sure about that very xen note towards the middle.

I'm going back to this tuning in the future.

Dear Chris,

I share your concern that the whole point in a considerable number of
the formulated tunings seem the aiming of a closer approximation at
the acoustical foundations of 12-tET, which either happen to be purism
in the form of JI, extended JI, adaptive JI, etc... OR some
temperament approach to realize variants of the common intervals found
in 12-tET - with some uncommon intervals as bonus. These indeed sound
imitative of 12-tET. Possibly, there needs to be a split between the
purist approach to microtonality and xentonality altogether?

Sorog is sounding nice. The rest also sound quite nice. Maybe I have
lost the ability to discern the quality of tunings? Perhaps they fit
the common-practice expectations ingrained in me. Or maybe you know
how to work properly in any setting that you get your hands on!

And I fully agree with your views on the inescapability of getting
involved with at least some notion of music theory when performing
microtonal music. This "theory" could be an oral kind, passed on from
generation to generation, or even an esoteric kind in the form of
cryptic texts on tones and their procedural relations.

Cordially,
Oz.

Thank you for the compliment.

" Or maybe you know

Truth is you don't hear the ones I reject - some I don't even bother recording!
(My method of improvising is finding a "nugget" to use as a core for
the improvisation first.)

I'm not sure... I'll steer myself through the tunings better when I learn more.
