Golden Age

I've finished some more music. Until I get SFTP on a computer I
trust, I won't put it on my website. So for now it's here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?jzzmt1wqzoi

I don't know the site. It looks like fairly nasty popup and
Flash-heavy stuff. If anybody wants to share the file another way, go
ahead.

Anyway, the music. I started it when I was in China and had a MIDI
keyboard. I was really happy about how it was going. I don't have
the keyboard any more, so I had to stop playing things in and start
drawing in the sequencer instead. It could have vocals added but I
don't have the facilities for that here, either, so it's yet another
microtonal instrumental piece.

It uses magic temperament with my tripod-inspired "Pengcheng" keyboard
mapping. I never explained that, but you can get the Scala file here:

http://x31eq.com/magic/

I used TOP-RMS. There are a couple of magic comma pumps, implemented
in the very un-subtle way of the melody rising by a third each time.

If you get an account on my site www.notonlymusic.com you can attach your
music to a post and then send the link out.

I do not have advertisements or flash or crap.

This is a cool little piece!

Graham - I'll toss your piece up on micro.soonlabel.com in a folder under
your name.

However, if you sign up for the forum www.notonlymusic.com you can do it
yourself w/o risking your site.

That's the best thing I've ever heard you do. While it could use a little rhythmic tightening, the piece has a charm to it. It reminds me a lot of what I liked about the Residents, and I liked them a lot.

Keeper!

I thought the rhythms were fabulous. Very breakbeat-esque. -Carl

Your statement and mine are not in conflict.

Thank you!

Yes, according to CEDICT, 鼎盛 means "golden age" and 鼎 means "tripod"
in the same sense as the quotes and picture I used for the Tripod
Notation article. I searched for tripod-related entries and I use
them for titles.

Is either of those "dingsheng"? -Carl

The first one was, but it got mangled somewhere on its journey. Try this:

http://www.iciba.com/%E9%BC%8E%E7%9B%9B/

And this site has some definitions that look interesting:

http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_5d087ce60100ayhk.html

I say "look" because I don't entirely understand it. But I think
there are some words CEDICT doesn't have, and so I can keep writing
tripod music without having to make up my own titles.
