Scala question

Hello everyone

What is the command for hearing the pitches
in the scale on the Scala program?

When I choose a scale, it will not let me
hear it. It will only show me the scale.

Yes, my speakers are on.

Thanks
Joel

Sorry I'm the first to answer you. I haven't fired up Scala in *ages* but I just did. You should see an icon on the toolbar that looks like a small portion of a keyboard, with the word "Play" beneath it. You'll also find it as "Chromatic Clavier" in the "Analyze" menu (and if on Windows, apparently the F4 key activates it as well).

You should then have a pop-up window with a keyboard in it; clicking with the mouse on keys should sound the pitch, Ctrl-click will sustain the note, allowing auditioning of chords/harmonies.

HTH,
Jon

Ok, I did that and still no sound when I go over the selected scale.

I went to the "Chromatic Clavier" and went to 'sound settings'
and it said 'all notes are off'.

Is there any way to get 'all notes on'?

How do I change the settings for this?

Thanks again Jon

You're misinterpreting the meaning of the "All notes off" button. It's there
in case notes get "stuck" and won't shut off. Comes in handy when you're
playing some ridiculously dissonant neutral third chord and you can't get it
to stop, while your roommate/family members/wife and kids/the neighbors/the
national guard start knocking on your door telling you to shut it the hell
off.

To answer your original question, you probably don't have MIDI set up right.
Set the right MIDI device up and all will be well.

You don't even *need* a MIDI keyboard/device to hear the notes. What I referred to was bringing up the Clavier window, and then clicking on the keys of the keyboard (in the popup window) with a left-click of the mouse. When held down, you should hear that pitch, Joel; if you press Control and click, it will sustain that note, and you can do the same with others to build up a held chord.

I mean within the software, he needs to make sure he has his MIDI output
device set up correctly, whether it's the internal Microsoft GS synth or
something else. If he's not getting any sound from the Clavier, chances are
he doesn't have that set up properly.

I sent this before as a personal note to Joel, since it
doesn't really answer the question, but instead is
an easy way to hear any scale in the archive.
It's free and works on Mac and WIndows.

Dear colleagues,

as some of you probably know, IMEB in France calls for help for the second time. Please check their pages and consider your signing the petition. We are on the same boat.

Daniel Forro

--------------------------------------------------------------

SECOND APPEAL FOR SUPPORT FOR IMEB
Addressed to Colleagues, Artists, the Public and Friends of IMEB from All Countries

www.supportforimeb.org

At the end of 2009, 2513 of you from 63 countries showed your support for IMEB, in danger of being closed by the Ministry of Culture. We are extremely grateful to you all for your efforts! This wave of protest was taken up and broadcast by many personal and institutional websites all over the world, and the protest was so strong that both print and electronic media passed on the information. But despite your magnificent show of solidarity, the Ministry still stands by its decision.
We see only one possible response: start a new campaign of support louder and with even more participants than the first.
Therefore, we, the members of the Support Committee for the IMEB, call on you once more to join this second protest, even more vigorously than before, either by writing yourself to the addresses you will find at the site www.supportforimeb.org , or by signing the petition you will find there. If you sign the petition at the website, it will automatically be sent with your signature to all the parties concerned.
You will find a report of the current situation along with additional information at the sites www.supportforimeb.org and www.imeb.net (under Support Committee). We must, by our common efforts and our joined voices from more than 60 different countries, succeed in saving the IMEB!
