Re: [tuning] 60x60 now to include microtonal mix - if they get enough submissions

Hello everybody.

I seem to be the first one to announce an entry to the 60x60 event. My entry of 1 minutes is titled "East Dreams West". I already submitted the piece online, and thus feel safe in making it public as an mp3 file:

http://www.ozanyarman.com/files/music/East_Dreams_West.mp3

"East Dreams West" is a noble quasi-Waltz for Chamber String Orchestra reminscent of the Romantic Age and realized in a 12 tone subset out of 17 equal divisions of the octave.

Aside from the bursting melancholy of Bb minor in this tuning, the piece reflects a strong contrast through Arabicized Huzzam & Rast maqam flavours in 5/8 and 9/8 rhythms.

It was composed using Sibelius+Scordatura by H-Pi instruments and processed with Logic Pro.

Special thanks to Aaron Krister Johnson for his kind invitation and encouragement.

Comments welcome!

Cordially,
Oz.

Am I the first to announce a 60x60 piece in 60 note equal
temperament?

60-tET is strong in 7-limit. That is pretty audible in your new piece
Graham. Catchy title too "Extravagant Food". Perhaps more in line with
what I'd like to call "old school microtonalism"?

At first listen, it sounds quite "western" to me, not unessentially due to the instrumentation probably. I got to have a closer listen at the middle part...

It says:

Works submitted must not have been previously performed or broadcasted.

I reasoned that I already submitted my piece before making it public,
so it hasn't been performed or broadcasted before my submission.

That's the spirit. The piece is about the "Western aspiration of
dreamy East". In its slumber, East suddenly recalls its own idiom,
only to revert back to its reverie of the West.

Yeah, I'm a little confused about what constitutes a "performance" or "broadcast". I interpreted it to mean a professional, public performance, either live or recorded, or it being a more-or-less official release as a single or on an album.

I'm asking since the only place I'm publicly posting my own work is here on MMM. I'm only storing it on my website for now; there's not even a link to it on my Music page.

But if this disqualifies the piece, it's okay; I just came up with this yesterday while goofing off at my favorite coffee place in Central Austin (the only place I know of that has both Turkish coffee and wifi). At least I know I like the sound of an organ tuned to all "wolf" intervals...
