A contestant , Phaze, made an online player for all of the entries. It randomizes on load.

It has all the usual controls

And of course it includes the microtonal Saba Storm (thus on topic)

Thanks,

Chris

I've been enjoying the songs this morning from the online flash site. So far I really like some of the tunes. More later. Is there some way to do the site without that wierd blue-eyed goth girl staring at me while I listen? She's creepy.

Hi Prent

I did not make that site. As an alternate you could download the music pack from http://center.soonlabel.com.

Take care,

Chris

Sorry, I was really confused. There are two competitions going on, one from the SoonLabel.com site at
http://center.soonlabel.com
and the other from the Untwelve site at
http://www.untwelve.org/2009competition_audio/

The former is a non-microtonal competition for the most part, and the latter is microtonal.

I found the pieces at SoonLabel trite and cliched, except for the SabaStorm, which I liked when I first heard it.

But I love the ones on UnTwelve competition. All ten are super. I'd have picked number 9 or 10 myself, but the winners are great too.

The Soonlabel one was not exclusively microtonal yes.

I had hopes that more microtonal composers would enter the contest and go
head to head with the 12-TET world but alas that hope was dashed. My
personal opinion would be the more microtonal presence would have helped the
cause of popularizing microtonal music - a subject so often talked about
here.

But all I could do is offer....

Yeah, though I did find about six tracks I really liked, and picked out a top three. My background is rock with a lot of jazz, R&B and classical influence, so I'm more impressed by song structure and contrast rather than five minutes of monotony.

I did hear another tune with at least a quarter tone somewhere, and I think it was in my top six... need to find it again.

I know for a fact Saba Storm has quarter tones (I think either 2 or 3 of them) as Oz posted the tuning for it here. :-)

I mean in addition to Ozan's. It's the one by DJ Kujata, unless my ears are playing tricks on me.

I did notice that some of the tracks that used atonality and chromaticism would've sounded better with microtonal; I now feel like playing everything in strict 12-et is like viewing images in 256 color VGA video, so I'm spoiled now.
