ZynAddSubFX is an established Linux soft-synth. I didn't know it was a VSTi. The link you gave suggests the VST support isn't stable. It's on the list of microtonal synthesizers:

http://www.microtonal-synthesis.com/micro_tz.html

but with no mention of VST.

Give it a day, jeez. Lots of linux users here who would probably
chip in. Graham caught what I didn't, which is that you're
specifically asking for VST. It's a bit of a misnomer, since
it's illegal to use VST on linux and it's poorly supported as a
result.

But you can try the list here for a start

I use it, it's really a great fat, warm, rich synth. IMHO the best overall
sounding and feature-rich softsynth for Linux. And, it's cross-platform.

Not quite RT-safe yet with jackd, but I think the devs are working on it.

Oh, another thing -- Csound can run as a VST. It's a bit of overkill if you only want a drop-in synth, because Csound is a world all of its own, but it can be done.
