[Please excuse the cross-post.]

I am happy to announce the release of Complex Silence 4, my contribution to the ongoing series curated by Phillip Wilkerson. The release consists of two pieces (Meridian Transit and Solar Midnight) both of which derive musical materials in various ways from the Golden Ratio. This is microtonal music, but (unusually for me) does not employ just or rational intonation. I used blue and Csound to make these pieces.

To get the release (including graphics, a PDF with liner notes, and MP3s), please visit:

I will eventually post more detailed technical notes and source code to my site.

Thanks for listening!

This is excellent music.

What is blue?

You make be interested in this program - you might make good use of it.

It can stretch music to incredible lengths - I believe up to year lengths
are possible.

I used it here: (warning - NOT microtonal)

As a first go at this I took my song "Break it Down" which is about 5
minutes long and stretched it to 1 hour and 3 minutes in length.

I think it sounds interesting - something to have on in the background while
doing other things. All of the textures are expanded - the drums become
waves crashing on a rocky shore. The music obtains tremendous depth.

on line play (low quality mp3)

download (low quality) 38 megabyte mp3

download high quality ogg file (which will stream in the latest version of
Firefox - a very nice feature.)

Thanks, Chris.

blue is a graphical front-end for Csound: http://www.csounds.com/stevenyi/blue/

The time stretching app sounds interesting, and I will take a look, but I believe that I can do all that in Csound, with even more flexibility and control (including the effects).

I look forward to listening to your track! Will download it tonight.
