Aah great idea :-)I'm in!

Good reason to finally compose/produce something.
I've only been thinking about music till now.
Never finished a single song in my entire life :)

I read submissions close by oct 1, but when will the winner be announced?
I could really use $180 ;-)

Just out of curiousity: is the initial round of judging, narrowing the field down to 10 finalists, being done anonymously? IOW, will the judges listening know *who* they are listening to, or will it be a blind listening of the submitted example files?

I might very well have some material ready in time...

Cheers,
Jon

Any idiot knows it is spelled "curiosity". Gah!

Aaron: I will repackage the files and number them for the judges...they won't know who is who.

Nice!

Splendid. After a couple years (mostly) of being away from composing/recording, I may have the opportunity (read: free time!) to do some. At least I *hope* so, and it would be a nice way to both share, and support your efforts.

Cheers,
Jon

This can more accurately be described as a raffle, rather than a competition. When you charge the entrants $20 for the privilege of competing, it's more of a lottery than an award. Perhaps you should make it interesting, and make the prize $20,000, but charge $1,000 to enter. The possibilities are endless. Now we are just arguing over the price.

"a non-refundable Paypal fee of $20, payable from this page, see below"

Hi all,

Thanks for your feedback re:the competition.

There are valid points on both sides of the issue regarding entry fees.
However, ultimately, our position is one that we all are comfortable with as
it stands.

We feel strongly that the competition will be a net positive for the music
community in general, but it was started out of fondness for this community.
Our hope was to spark some creative activity, giving people some incentive
to give their best work for the benefit of microtonal music awareness
everywhere.

We have received numerous queries already from excited parties outside the
tuning list, so our mission of expanding such awareness has already begun,
and as such, we consider this a successful project already. While we
sincerely hope that some of you will contribute your works, and we look
forward to listening to them, we understand if you choose not to.

Best,

Aaron Krister Johnson
