Using Michael Sheiman's version 3.2 Phi based scale I tried to do a blues microtonal improvisation with some drums.

Hmm....
90% of the lead actually sounds great to me.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But there's something about the saw-like gritty bassline sound that really really trips up the scale, even when just the bassline is playing alone it "feels" like it's in a completely different (and much more dissonant) key.
Maybe one of the overtones of the bass reveals a flaw in the scale...
*****************************************************************************
Dare I suggest, how about swapping between a few different bass instruments until you find one that works more cleanly (and sharing/comparing the results)?

If you can record which bass instruments do/don't work and send one-shot samples of them it would be interesting (from my side) to look at them and try to deduce which overtone cause the scale problems.

This works really well, sounds good. I'm not as negative on the bass line timbre, but if it were a little mellower & mushier might be nicer...?

oh how odd - this just showed up in my inbox.....

Thanks for the listen and comment.

This project got thrown into stasis because Mike has been working on new
scale variant I I got busy with other commitments. - i will make it a point
to revised the bass line eventually and post it.

Yeah, weird... I think there was mail trouble on my end... ;-) In any case, I'll be curious to see the update eventually. Cheers,
Rick
