!!

That's actually a demo of the AXiS-64. Elaine did a whole series
of these on youtube. Also be sure to check out the series by
Jordan Rudess!

BUT!! The title of this blog post caught my eye. There is a new
AXiS model, the AXiS-49, that I didn't know existed (or may have
heard about but forgot).

I don't know how the heck they're coming up with these model
numbers, but the AXiS-64 has 192 keys, and the -49 has 98 keys.
(Presumably they are apeing the standard MIDI keyborad controller
sizes... weird.)
The -49 is only $500 through the end of the month! It's also
USB whereas the -64 is oldschool MIDI serial (yuck).

I'm about to buy one:

Hi Carl,

Right now the axis-49 will only send 49 unique midi notes. Not 98.
So it has it's fixed keyboard layout of 49 unique keys repeated over the
other 49.
They plan to make a firmware update somewhere in the future that will allow
it to send either 98 unique midi notes on 1 midi channel, or split the 2 49
keys sections over 2 midi channels, but right now it can't and is therefore
of limited use for microtonal music / custom keyboard layout.

Sorry guys!

I just got a C-Thru Music from them and I was wrong somehow!

The AXiS-64 is £850 - Our new product the AXiS-49 is actually £330
(this is the introductory discount £20 off the retail price until
March 21st). Thanks for the info Marcel. It seems too limited, and
worthy waiting for the 98 notes in one MIDI channel.

In fact I just got two octaves with probably 4 times more notes from
H-Pi, even though I paid only twice the amount. The size is around
the same for both I believe. Long life to H-Pi!!!

I also got Scordatura which is an amazing virtual instrument to play
with many shapes which is also another hurray for Aaron!!!

Thanks Marcel. Drat! I saw a note on their site about it only being
able to send on channel 1, but not that the keys weren't producing
unique notes. -Carl

But the keys are tiny, have limited travel and a switch-like feel,
and are not velocity sensitive.
