Hi Folks,

I've been taking a fresh swing at algorithmic microtonal music the last
few days - I think I found some interesting territory to explore. Here
is a snapshot:

Enjoy!

The technique I have been using to generate scores involves a cost
function which is based on harmonic relationships. The program starts
with a random score which has a high cost, and then slowly sifts
through the set of possible scores - of course, only through a tiny
subset of all the possibilities - step by step reducing the cost. In
the end the lowest cost score is pretty much a monotone. So both the
highest and the lost cost are boring. The interesting area is in
between. A few days I posted one of the in between snapshots. Here is
another snapshot further along in the process, i.e. at a lower cost. A
lot more repetitive and closer harmonies - should be easier to listen
to, though perhaps less interesting. The earlier one was mighty
dissonant, probably too much so.

Here's another piece - I think I am getting closer to something that might actually sound good!

Hi Jim,
Is there any way to download it from somewhere else?

Do you have trouble accessing it from SoundClick? I am happy to upload it to wherever is most convenient for folks!

It seems that SoundClick requires two things I refuse to do:
0) Using a Flash player
1) Registering as listener informing mail address etc. just to download a file.
(I fear it requires both conditions...)
