Concerning the tuning group at http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/tuning/

I occasionally visit this group to see what sort of nonsense they are
currently engaged in. I am pleased to say that they are still
preoccupied with the same sort of nonsense which would make Edward Lear
proud to be an Englishman. It's amazing how many hundreds of messages
are posted without a scrap of useful information to go with it. Long
live nonsense?!@#$%^&.

Hmm....I don't know how to take this.
The funny things is I (for one) am a member of both that tuning group and your own, plus I have tried to start one of my own.

I would say /tuning/ is basically a group about Just Intonation scale, Mean-tone tunings, and Diatonic scales under TET tunings (all mathematically related to JI).

About the most avant-garde thing I've seen being discussed there with much respect is 7-limit JI and JI-based theories on how to make a justly-intoned 12-tone tuning more-or-less compatible with 12TET (which sounds to me like going in circles a bit rather than making something truly new).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And if you (like myself) agree that the most interesting new things in tuning often happen outside of things related to JI (interesting things including the Golden Ratio tuning, Wilson's MOS scales, Sethares' timber/tuning experiments)...you will likely be frustrated by said above group.  The response "it is historically wrong" seems to be their answer to most everything non-JI-related, even when they like the sound/music examples that don't use JI or related scales/tunings.
------------------------------------------
Don't get me wrong, "tuning" is a great group for those into historical tunings and JI (if you consider JI new).  But I don't recommend it that group much for those creating their own "futurist" tunings or showing their own songs based on such tunings.
