17 tones of love

Hey MMM!

How ya been?

Anyone else doing the RPM Challenge (record an album in February) Prent mentioned?

I'm going for a mostly-17-tone album. And, at the same time, Nodal Nim & I are making
a 17edo zine.

Zinetastic!

Oh, if only every lovely tuning had its own hand-copied, underground-distributed
publication! Where's the propaganda, people?

I know, I know. Music music music > talk talk talk.

But, music may need language more than language needs music.

I think Herbert Brün said that.

Anyway, does anyone have/want to compose any songlets (scores the size of an index
card) or testimonial praise for 17-EDO, for inclusion in said zine?

Thanks In Advance.

Jacob B.

Jacob & all,
I'm working on an album for the RPM Challenge this year also. I've
finished three of the five to ten songs so far. You can hear progress
at my blog, or wait until February 31st for the finished work.

Three pieces so far described and linked here:

Hi Prent,

I'm loving your music :)

You must have a really efficient workflow to put out this quality music this
fast.
Which programs and synths are you using?

Prent - excellent music!

Terminus is reminiscent of the CD you sent me.

For what its worth I enjoyed blue glacier the most. There is a lot of depth
for me in that one.

Are any of the pieces here aleatoric?

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks for listening. I use a lot of indeterminacy. Each instrument
has many choices for what to do next. They get lists of note strings
to choose from, and have constraints over how much repetition they are
permitted at any given point in time. I make a number of takes and
then choose the one that sounds most interesting.

Whoa! Most of Prent's stuff is 15-limit.

Haha yes I could tell.
But doesn't mean I can't enjoy it :)
I'm also a big fan of wendy carlos - beauty in the beast, most of terry
riley, aphex twin - selected ambient works II, etc

Correct. I use 53 TET to approximate the Partch Tonality diamond to
the 15 limit. No 17 tone here.

I gotta say you have have a way with indeterminacy - the piece I liked, blue
glacier I think, does not at all sound randomized - perhaps computer aided
composition would be a better name?
