MPT = modplug tracker

This is one done in OpenMPT after Mike showed me how to use its tuning
capability.

22 EDO french horns - with some chorus and reverb

http://clones.soonlabel.com/mp3/22again.mp3

and this is another bird all together

24 notes per octave done in December 2001 (apparently on the 31st) by
detuning crappy piano samples in MPT- I added reverb

Chris,

This sounds very consonant, but IMVHO lacks a bit in character due to either extremely obvious motifs or overly jazzy parts with little sense of motif. If sounds like 12TET with a tad of bending to introduce a tad of "in between" character as if modulating in between two normal 7 note scales.

> 22 EDO french horns - with some chorus and reverb
Sounds like it would be less acceptable to a major audience, but much more interesting an exotic in tonal color: this gains in personality more than what it loses in consonance.
Probably the best 22TET piece I have heard from you so far: epic and slowly creeping at the same time...and even though it sounds off at times you've found many very cool chords and sweet spots in this tuning: keep it up!

Its interesting to hear the pieces together

http://www.traxinspace.com/song/42388

I find composing in a tracker very hard to do for "classical" style music.
(ambient however is excellent and rock music ok)

The 22 EDO is really nice to work in - so far piano and horn timbres seem to
work the best for me.
PS - the horns sound perfectly consonant to me - be that odd or not.

I should add. To hell with audiences. It is not my concern if people get what I do. I write for me.

Chris,

---if people get what I do. I write for me.

When I said "Sounds like it would be less acceptable to a major audience, but much more interesting an exotic in tonal color"...I actually meant "it is more than worth being 'weird/audience-acceptable' for".

So, given the choice, I would agree: go for individuality first and foremost as the crux...although I will admit being able to get an audience in addition is a nice bonus, like a cherry on top; at least for me. I'm not trying to imply you should bend over backward to get an audience or anything like that by being my usual critical self.

Anyhow, again, good work on the 22TET horn piece and keep it up!
