One of the few times you will hear me sing!
I had some access to an anechoic chamber and was recorded (by Eva Cheng) doing harmonic singing on 9 pitches of meta mavila just as a test.
While greatly limited in range and scale, i was able to throw this together using that recording.
Armed with nothing more than my Peterson tuner, each note is me overdubbed 8 times but staggered.
It is a mini requiem for the mini genocide
a Georgian Soundbite so to speak

This is awesome - can I use some of this as a sample?

Man this is truly excellent, very moving, a kind of massive purity.

This is excellent music, and pretty darn evocative. Great job!

Beautiful, evocative, and unmistakably Grady-esque!

How to make a meta mavila?

I take the portion of the recurrent sequence 7 9 12 16 21 28 37 49 65
84 114 151 200 as a chain of 3rd/4ths (9:7 12:9 etc.)? yielding

0: 1/1
1: 57/56
2: 8/7
3: 65/56
4: 9/7
5: 37/28
6: 151/112
7: 3/2
8: 43/28
9: 12/7
10: 7/4
11: 25/14
12: 2/1

or some rotation of it?

(please pardon my ignorance and the fact that i'm not commenting on
the music)

Hi Jacob.
That is version of meta Slendro i use. but i usually if i write it out in ratios i still think of F being the 1/1.
I usually don't as i find it just clutter things up, i already know they are in the same harmonic series
The version of meta mavila i use ( instead of a 7EDO btw)
is
37
50
67
91
124
167
225
(306
415)
the formula which is more important can be found here
http://anaphoria.com/mavila.PDF
but basically in lay
person terms
2A +B = E
with the seed being ( one needs to seed the series with the first 4 terms)
37=A
50=B
67=C
91=D

37x2 + 50 =124=E
and then you treat 50 as the new A

One can seed this however one wishes which is the great thing and i expect one using their ear would not choose the same as me.
one can also do this subharmonically which i have been playing with the seed 17 23 31 42....... this i take out to 23 places working on the setting of one of Joyce's hundred letter words.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Padovan_sequence

Each element is defined as P(n) = P(n-2) + P(n-3). The actual Padovan sequence defines the size of the fourth, as the Fibonacci sequence does for the sequence that approaches Golden meantone (7 12 19 31 50 81...)

I brought up what Gene Ward Smith (if I remember correctly) calls Osmium temperament; I call it Platinum myself. it's also based on a Padovan sequence, but the first ETs in increasing order are 5 7 10 12 17 22 29 39 51 68 90. The size of the fourth is the Padovan sequence as well: 2 3 4 5 7 9... with three consecutive elements defining the small, medium and large step of a tetrachord.

Anyway, that's just an aside, and a little math lesson. ~D.

The whole series has been up in the Wilson Archives for the last seven years under the scales of Mt. Meru
http://anaphoria.com/wilson.html
my first CD in 1996 already had samples of these
