I agree, the step in the right direction. This is more interesting for me than your previous stuff. Go on!

Thanks for the encouragement. I will most definitely be going further
at this point... far too late to turn back now. Over the next few
months I'm planning to take a step backward and break away from using
AutoCAD with the eventual goal of making the 3d sequencer/synth
entirely open source. Since this is a prime opportunity to change the
name of the software I'd love to hear some ideas about what to call
it. Right now it's coded as "MusiCAD" which is a bit on the bland
side and is already being used by a notation program, and I'm
considering calling the new one VACuum (Virtual Audio Carver) but that
name kinda sucks too and I don't know what to do with the 'uum' at the
end to make it fit. Anybody got any ideas?

Here is the result of some free association combined with Google and a
book of synonyms. It's basically just all the variations I could think
of for sound or audio combined with with all variations and synonyms I
could find or think of for artificer. I don't like most of them but it
may get you thinking.

toneSmith
tuneSmith
audioSmith
audioCraft
toneCraft
soundCraft
pitchArtisan
audioJourneyman
entropy
pitchMaster
artificer
toneLuthier
toneCutter
toneSpinner
toneCarver
toneFitter
toneShaper
toneWeaver
toneTinker
toneTechnicion
tonePotter
toneRigger
toneForger
soundPotter
pitchCarver
tuneShaper
pitchSavant

...definitely got me thinking.

The way I look at it when I'm staring at the blank screen before I put
the first note down is I'm looking at a physical block of silence and
the software is designed to cut into that silence as intuitively as
possible. In my mind it doesn't get much more intuitive than sticking
your hand (or any other tool/implement) into a moving block of silence
and this is what I'm trying to convey in the name.

The way I figure it, we'll eventually be able to stand in a virtual
room (something like a C.A.V.E.) and be able to "touch" the
notes/audiosculptures with something like a data glove so I'm also
trying to fit the name into the other 3d audio sculpting tools that
are waiting for the main piece of software to be finished so they'll
have a framework to be usable in. They would have names like Audio-
Anvil, Lathe, Scalpel, Chisel, Saw, etc...

...so while they're all good suggestions, I haven't come up with one
that makes me go "Aha! that's it!", yet.
