Radio is up and Running!

Hi Everyone,

The station is up and running. It can be accessed first through the
home page at www.microtonal-radio.com then click 81/80. I will
certainly be adding any new pieces you send me, so don't stop doing
so. Go ahead and send any feedback as well!

Very Cool.

Just an accessibility issue: I spent a good 5 minutes trying to figure out how to listen to the music. I realize it is the first sentence in the text, but I (and I suspect many other surfers) tend to ignore the text when I know what I'm looking for. So perhaps something that says "Listen" or "Listen to 81/80" or a speaker icon or something similar would be a good idea?

Best,
Magnus

I have been listening today and yesterday and heard a lot of great microtonal music I wasn't aware of already! Your station will undoubtedly help spread awareness of the varied microtonal music that exists out there! I especially enjoyed listening to the works of Charles Lucy, Kyle Gann and James Bergin. Keep up the good work!

Yea! That's really really great awesome exciting.

Now, some lists. Beginning relevant, then diverging.

Here is a list of people/bands whom I would reallyreally want on a
microtonal radio station, many of whom would not be in the habit of
reading yahoo group listservs.

Igliashon Jones / Holocene
Warren Burt (insanely prolific man, take your pick)
Elaine Walker / ZIA
Sonic Arts / I.D.Project (Jonathan Glasier & Brink McGoogy)
The Gongs (Oberlin band)
Donald Bousted
Samuel Pellman
Ralph Jarzombek
Marcus Hobbs/Satellite (esp. Continuum 5)
Marcus Bittencourt
James Wyness
Hayden Chisholm
Hans-Andre Stamm
Harold Fortuin
Arnold Dreyblatt

People I probably really want to hear their music but haven't bothered
to really look hard for it:

Ralph David Hill
Clem Fortuna ~ Xenharmonic something-or-other band / "world 48"
Lydia Ayers
Jacques Dudon
Gary Morrison
music written for Webster College's archiphone (broken now :( )
William Schottstaedt
Larry Polansky
Carter Scholz

Let me also profess an interest I haven't acted upon, in being able to
hear examples of people's homemade/custom-built acoustic
instruments/orchestras. (I would be interested in a road
trip/recording project with someone else.) People's I have heard:

Buzz Kimball
Harry Partch
Cris Forster / Chrysalis Foundation
Kraig Grady / Anaphoria

People's I haven't:

X.J.Scott (Tin Camelan)
American Gamelan of Harvey Mudd
Other Music 14-tone JI American Gamelan
Denny Genovese's orchestra - still in storage in Fla.? :(
Darren Burgess' microtonal carrilon
Skip LaPlante
Jim French
Erik Griswold
Tom Nunn

Three people I hope to be making recordings/renderings/reversions of
soon - question: would I have the choice of making my own
renderings/recordings public domain?

Alois Haba (just found some string quartet scores)
Adriaan Fokker (here come the udderbots...)
Tui St. George Tucker

that is all for now,
jacob

I spent more than 5 minutes and was not able to get it to play
anything. First, I was asked unnumerably times to grant the storing of
cookies, which I did - but I always ended up being asked to register.
Which I did not want.

Hello, thanks for your suggestions!

I actually was very interested in most of the people on your list,
however, I had trouble getting ahold of them. If you have a way of
helping me out there, that would be great! As everyone knows this
is my first radio station, so hopefully everyone can be patient with
me as we grow!

Thanks very much! And sorry to everyone who I hadn't responded to
yet, I think your mail ended up in my junk folder, which I looked at
today, so hopefully I got everyone.

Hello,

You should not be forced to register. I don't know what it is you
are clicking, but you should be able to click the speaker and just
listen. You will have to listen to some annoying ads, but it is
free. Let me know if you are still having trouble.

I am using firefox (aka iceweasel) and xmms on my system, and it is working fine, except that I don't see the title of the currently played song. For that I have to look at the website's "currently playing" list. Let me know if you find something that displays the name of the song.

I brought it to work now - on MSIE only, however. It was Firefox 1.5

Dear Jarod,

I'm enjoying your station, and thanks for including me. As it happens, I have a brand new
piece called Charing Cross that I premiered in Amsterdam tuesday, and it's yours for the
taking:

http://www.kylegann.com/CharingCross.mp3

You can give it its North American premiere. 13-limit tuning, 39 pitches to the octave, the
most I've ever used (small potatoes for some of you, I realize).

Yours,

Kyle

Beautiful piece, Kyle. I found myself jamming with it with soprano recorder
as it interacted best with the synthesized gockenspiel, "justly" so.

Jarod, I'm having MP3s made for you, soon to be sent to you. Figured my
string quartet Cosmic Rays, along with Odysseus would be a good submission.
Although, Odysseus is 45 minutes.

Last I looked, it was on my 'works' page.

Anyway, it's 12-of-15edo, and it's a sped up improvisation...I used
some polyrhythmic things that just occured to me by feel at the
time..you must be talking about the passage in the middle, right?
