Re: [MMM] 3(+?) tuning lists

Gerry,

metatuning is the easiest one to explain -- it's for
offtopic posting by microtonalists. Want to argue
politics or copmlain about the other lists or tell
about your day at the park? Metatuning. It keeps the
other lists on topic.

tuning is the granddaddy list. It used to cover
everything and any tuning related topic may still be
safely discussed there. But since there are different
interests, there are different lists.

MakeMicroMusic is for the discussion of PRACTICAL
aspects of microtonality. How to do it. What has been
done. Math and general scale theory are usually off
topic in MMM. The idea of MMM is a place where
composers can post and discuss their work. Theory is
supposed to be for the other lists.

There is also tuning-math, where hard core tuning math
theory takes place.

Therefore, your questions about instruments and synth
modules would be fine in MMM or in tuning. In MMM I
might guess you would find more people with actual
experience using a variety of instruments.

A discussion of african tunings might go over fine in
tuning, tuning-math, or MMM depending on its focus.
Want to talk about using african scales in tuning and
instrumnet building? MMM. Want to talk about a general
mathematical theory of african scales? tuning or
tuning-math.
