AFMM Microtonal Doings
We had 2 wonderful concerts last week. The last one is Tuesday at 10 PM in
NYC. The program features of Harry Partch’s “17 Lyrics of Li Po.” This is
Partch at the Bowery Poetry Club. Anastasia Solberg (violist) and I have
been performing together for almost 30 years. We’re planning to record under
the best conditions for a live performance.
Also, Dave Taylor (bass trombone) plays another one of my new works, “
Semantics of Tone.” I use a tuning which makes a scale of the utonality and
otonality up to the number 31. The soloist dramatizes different published quotes
about tone, first with words and then with music.
And we now have all 5 new titles of PITCH:
1. Skip La Plante (original music by a NY legend using homemade
instruments, aka trash).
2. Jon Catler (the AFMM live performances and a studio performance of
31-tone and Just)
3. Pianist Joshua Pierce (Hovhannes, Ohana, Cage, Ives, Wyschnegradsky,
Bonotto, Moser, Konicek)
4. Electronical (featuring Carlos, Lauten, Pehrson, Glazier,
Mandelbaum, and the late Albina Stefanou)
5. Ear Gardens (Reinhard “Cosmic Rays” string quartet, Riley “In C in
Just Intonation,” Corner “(two) Microtonal Melodies” for theremin and
trombone,” and Cage’s “Ten” in 84 ET)
These CDs are distributed by Albany Music Distribution, and are available
through CD Baby on the Internet.
A recent MicroJam from April 29th’s concert, featuring Dave Fiuczinski’s
quartet, Dave Taylor and myself on bassoon, will soon be available on the afmm
web site: _www.afmm.org_ (http://www.afmm.org/)
“Catch the fever”
